Writing A Blog Post, Some Tips

A Couple of Quick Hints about writing a Blog Post.
A huge mass of text can be very intimidating to a reader, so here are a couple of ways to help grab the reader’s attention and to help
Albino Kangaroo
them stick with the post.
Break Up The Text Into Chunks.
•Use bullet points to list ideas
•Remember to use paragraphs.
•Add headings to slabs of text.
•Use different colours for the text.
•Remember to Bold, Italicise and Underline some words.
•Or use any combination of the above.
Add Pictures
Break up the text with relevant images. Yes, I know, an albino kangaroo is not really relevant here, but I though you migh appreciate this rare animal.
This also has the advantage of being able to use a post’s keyword as the alt title of the image, which is useful for Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
Use The Read More Tool.

This will allow you to login to the subscriber dashboard, where you can add some information about yourself, along with a link to yor website and a couple of other features.
Subscribers are able to read posts and make comments, and will be shown as members in the Who’s Online Stats.
I am also prepared to ugrade some subscribers to contributors if they show that they have relevant and interesting items to post on this blog.
How To Subscribe.
In the Admin widget in the right sidebar is an option: Register.
When you click that option you will be presented with a sign up form that asks you for a UserName and your email address to send login details to. Some email servers (like Hotmail) might send the email with login details to a spam or junk folder. A gmail address usually works fine.

Running A Successful PPC Campaign
17
Nov
What is PPC?
The following is a definition of PPC:
Pay Per Click (PPC)- Program where an advertiser pays when people click on various links. The person participating (the Advertiser) pays each time their ad is clicked. The aim of the advertiser is to convert some of those clicks into sales. These ads show up on various web pages where the keywords related to the ad are usually related to the page content. They also appear on Search Engine results pages, where their keywords are dependant on the search term used to get the results.
The first step in PPC search marketing is deciding your goals.
Many marketers set out thinking that sales and high traffic go hand in hand. This can be the case with un-targeted traffic sources.
However with a PPC Advertising campaign to create more sales you need to be laser targeted.
For example, if the product is health and wellness related, using the search term, MLM Home Business, Read the rest of this entry »

Evaluating A Business Opportunity

Will I Join This One?
I recently investigated an opportunity being pushed by a respected online marketer, but there were some things about the scheme that set me thinking about how realistic, or even legal, it might be.
The thing that really stuck out was that the promoter of the scheme mentioned a couple of times in his professional video presentation, that there were no limits (infinite possibilities no less) to the income that could be earned. Clearly that is hyperbole, as income possibilities are limited by the population of the earth which is not infinite.
In fact, another of the promoters admits that only a small proportion of the people who see the presentation will take up the opportunity. So only a small part of the finite population will get involved.
There is no way that the income possibilities are infinite!
Is It A Ponzi Scheme?

Tweaking A Theme In WordPress
11
Nov
Did you notice the small difference?
Just before I started to write this post I edited the source code of the theme to make the font size for each post just a little bigger.
That is something that a blog owner at dotrim can do with their blog to. Tweaking your theme is often not possible when using a WordPress blog on a shared, or networked blog, because the Theme Edit option is not available on the dashboard.
Another good reason to have a blog hosted here at dotrim.com.
This post is not going to show how to do simple editing like this, as I wanted to point out this advantage of running a blog hosted here at dotrim.
The big question is Why would anyone want to edit a theme any way?
Well in this instance, I have been happy with the general appearance of the theme, but when compared with some others, I felt that the text font size was a little small. So a quick little edit of one line of the source code of one of the theme’s files allowed me to increase the text size just a little.
As time goes by I will possibly tweak some other features of the theme. All can be done by using the the Theme Editor option on the dashboard.
When you have your own blog at dotrim, I will be happy to show how simple little edits like these can done.
A word of caution: playing around with source code can cause unexpected and fatal problems, so before I do this sort of editing I experiment with another of my blogs here at dotrim.

This is just a quick post today to tell of how I made a huge leap in credits at TraficAdBar Traffic Exchange.
My email inbox this morning had a message to tell me that by surfing 100 sites I could gain 100,000 points. Just for 20 minutes of surfing.
Well it took me more like 50 minutes, with a couple of interruptions, but sure enough, after 100 sites I went up to over 100,000 points for today’s surfing.
That has also had the effect of increasing the traffic to this site, so why not join me in this TE?

Changing a Theme: First Steps
Perhaps the first thing a new blogger at dotrim would like to do is to choose a theme that suits their blogging topic.
In this post I will outline the process for selecting a theme from the hundreds of free themes that are available to Word Press users.
When a dotrim blog is set up, there are 5 themes provided to choose from, but the blog owner is not restricted to these available themes.
To change a theme to one of those already available:
1.Open the Appearance Menu in the Dashboard.
2.Select the Themes menu option.
3.Select the Manage Themes tab at the top of the page.
4.Click on any of the available themes to preview it.
5.Click Activate (top right hand corner) to set that theme OR
6.Close the preview and return to step 4 to preview another theme.
To Install a different theme:
1.Repeat Steps 1 and 2 above.
2.Click the Install Theme tab at the top of the page.
3.From there you can Search for a theme by keyword, author or tag OR
4.Use the various filters for colour, style etc.
5.From the results of your search you can choose to Preview and Install the selected theme.
There are more things that you can do with installing themes such as adding your own, uploading one from another source and editing a theme to suit your needs, but those tasks are better kept for the more experienced blogger.

Blog Set Up: How To Add Widgets
06
Nov
Placing a box with code in a sidebar
The blog that subscribers have here at dotrim is a fully featured WordPress blog and it is not necessary to import a widget to use for adding javascript and html. Unlike some other blogs which use a multi-user version of WordPress, you just need to place a Text Widget in the sidebar, and paste any javascript or html code in that textbox.
A series of How To… posts begins here.
This post is the first of a series of posts on dotrim that show how to do some of those little things that can be so annoying when you can’t seem to be able to work out how they are done.
Many readers probably already know this but these are the steps to put something like an APsense widget in the sidebar.
In this example I am using the APSense widget, but it could be any javascript or html code that you want to include, such as an autoresponder form, AdSense or KART Advertising.
•First get your APSense widget code and copy it.
•Next login to the blog and go to the dashboard
•Select Appearance from the left hand side menu.
•Select Widgets from the Appearance menu options.
•From the available widgets (in the centre column of the page) click and drag Text to the sidebar, where you want the code to appear.
•Give the Widget a title (optional)
•Paste the code into the main body part of the widget.
•Finally, and also very important. Save the widget.
Once that is done, go to the blog and the widget should display the APSense widget. If it doesn’t, you might need to refresh the page.
1: Open Appearance Menu. 2: Select Widgets
The images below will show the process by using screenshots from this blog.
The screenshots assume that the code to be placed in the widget has been copied and is ready for pasting.
This image shows from the Dashboard menu that the Appearance menu has been opened (1) and the the Widget option has been selected.
When that occurs all available widget will be displayed in the centre of the page.
Also, any widgets that have been deactivated will be shown at the bottom of the active widgets. This is handy, because if you want to rest a widget for a short time it can be stored there and reinstated at a later time without having to go through the process of having to set it all up again.
Drag Text Widget to the Sidebar
The next step is to drag a Text widget into the sidebar.
From the available widgets, click and drag Text to the location on the sidebar where you want the widget to sit. Once in postion, release the mouse button and the widget will open up, ready for you to
1.Give it a title (this is optional)
2.Paste the code into the main text box.
Once that is done you are ready to save the widget. This is a very important, and easy to overlook step, so I will repeat again.
Do not forget to save the widget before navigating away, or going to check out if it is working!

The Dangers In Using An Online Translator

Do You Use An Online Translator?
One of the greatest bugbears for a blog owner is dealing with spam comments.
Here is one that that I just had to add, simply because it is an ideal example of what can go wrong when using an online translator to convert from one language to another.
Someone, most likely using an auotobot to post comments, with their first language not being English tried to add the following comment to a post in this blog.
Thanks a ton to get a especially clear and valuable publish. I’m undeniably a violator of lots of these procedures. I typically unearth by myself conflicted when writing a weblog put up because I see myself producing greater than people today want to study, but I believe that I have got to do the topic matter proper rights by thoroughly protecting it. I think that by subsequent a few of these rules I finish up slicing out very important facets towards the dialogue. I guess you could have to come across a balance.
This looks to me like a prime example of Manglish (Mangled English), and I defy anyone to be able to convert it back to meaningful English.
It is full of grammatical and syntax problems, as well as being very difficult to understand what is the point of the comment.
This comment has been sent to the trash can, just like other similar comments, unrelated to the post where the comment has been made.
Real people, using their brain are invited to comment on posts in this blog, but auto-comments like this one are given the boot.
If you think you can interpret the comment I have highlighted, by all means do that by way of a comment.
